Warkworth civil construction company – Rhodes for Roads

Warwick Rhodes

Bio

Warwick Rhodes loves graders and is very proud of the business and the fleet he and his wife Katie have built. When asked by a teacher in his last year at Mahurangi College what he was going to do after he left school, he immediately replied he was going to be like his dad and work on the roads.

Warwick grew up in Warkworth and worked for the local Rodney County council before forming Warwick Rhodes Contractors Limited in 1985. He has over 50 years’ practical experience in all aspects of civil construction: a grader operator, foreman, project manager and managing director.

Rhodes for Roads is a civil construction company with a family focus and culture that extends to the greater community. Warwick seems to know everyone in the Warkworth area and has a broad knowledge of the history of the region

Warwick is very proud to be a 5th generation local. In his spare time, Warwick enjoys fishing and indulging in a glass of quality red wine. He and Katie love escaping to their Far North hideaway when time allows.

Brendon Henry

Bio

Brendon likes to remind us quite often that he didn’t have grey hair when he joined us 20 years ago. With over 40 years in contract management, he is our man on the ground when it comes to coordinating and managing roading, water, sewer and stormwater construction projects and liaising with consultants, engineers and surveyors. An avid rugby fan, Brendon is a born and bred Warkworth local who went to Mahurangi College as a young chap.

Phil Mason

Bio

“Thirty years’ hard labour,” as Phil likes to say. Having started out as a grader operator, he has been a loyal and hardworking part of the Rhodes for Roads team for three decades. Now our Contracts Manager, Phil makes sure jobs of all sizes run to plan, on budget, and to spec. With his years of onsite know-how, he’s a pro at keeping subbies and resources on track, and we reckon there’s not much he hasn’t seen.

Phil grew up in Rodney and attended Mahurangi College, so it’s fair to say he knows just about everyone, and every driveway, in the district. Outside of work, you’ll often find him out on the water fishing or winding down with a well-earned cold beer.

Troy Rhodes

Bio

Troy joined the company in 2000 at just 16 years old, following in the footsteps of his dad, Warwick Rhodes, the owner and founder of Rhodes for Roads. This year, he’s celebrating 25 years with us. He’s operated just about every machine you can name, but these days he’s our main Grader Operator — and we reckon one of the best around.

Outside of work, Troy’s usually either out fishing or on his motorbike. He’s also got two teenage boys who might one day be following in his tracks, and when he’s not behind the controls at work, you’ll likely find him out fishing or tearing around on his motorbike.

Michelle Jackson

Bio

Michelle is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Rhodes for Roads team. She joined the civil construction company in June 2014 and admits that although she knows a fair bit about trucks and metal now, that was not the case back then. With over a quarter of a century of experience in accounts and administrative roles, Michelle takes care of all the general administration, detailed job costings, accounts, payroll and monthly financial reporting and does a fine job of the lot. Outside the office, Michelle loves yoga, long walks, gardening and, quite understandably, relaxing with a glass of wine at the end of the day.

Tyson Rhodes

Bio

Tyson came on board in 2005 at just 16 years old, so this year marks 20 years with Rhodes for Roads. He’s a very experienced digger operator, but more recently, he’s stepped up into the office as our Site Supervisor. He’s also the guy behind the company drone, capturing great shots of the fleet and jobs, and he’s got a pretty good eye for it.

Like his brother Troy, Tyson followed in the footsteps of their dad, Warwick Rhodes. Away from work, life’s full-on with three young daughters under the age of seven keeping him on his toes. When he does get some spare time, he loves fishing or heading out on his motorbike.

Chris South

Bio

We have a lot of trucks and big machinery going in a lot of different directions. Chris oversees it all. He makes sure everything gets to where it should be safe and sound and does the job it should be doing. Chris has been with us for over 20 years and basically, he’s the guy who oversees the planning. He takes phone calls, schedules all the machinery for the various jobs, and plans for all the regular repairs and maintenance of our fleet. He has an incredibly detailed knowledge of the Rodney area and customers’ requirements. He will always go the extra mile to ensure Rhodes for Roads delivers an outstanding service to everyone as efficiently as possible.

He’s also the guy we call when we need help with anything techie. He prevents the computers, phones and staff from imploding. We often hear his name being screeched in frustration when anyone has trouble with apps and upgrades and other such things. A total sports nut, Chris loves basketball and big, loud V8s going round in round in circles. (Sometimes he even has to take the day off after Bathurst.)

Shadow

Bio

Here at Rhodes for Roads, we strive to create a culture at our workplace that makes our team feel at home, and that also goes for our furry friends. Rhodes for Roads is a feline-friendly civil construction company. You might see our current security cat Shadow either darting around the yard checking everybody out or keeping an eye on the goings on from his favourite sunny spots. Although possibly not the hardest working member of our workforce, he is an essential part of the Rhodes for Roads team.
